Who encourages me? The real question is who doesn’t encourage me? My sister and my mother are two great women that both have impacted my life for the better! My sister is the person that basically shows me that I can do anything. She helps me set goals for myself. She shows me examples, and shows me how to live a successful life. She is basically the person I look up to. I ask her for advice and she gives me her honest opinion. She accepts who I am and who I want to be. She is the most amazing person in my life, well not the most amazing person. My mother has always been there for me when nobody else has. She teaches me that if I’m going to do anything in life I have to tell people what I want. She encourages me to speak what’s on my mind and stand up for what I believe in. She tells me to chase my dreams even if they seem impossible. She supports me in everything I do and tells me when I’m in the right. She stands up for me when people talk or run over me. She is the main person in my life. She helps me when I need help. She lets me do what I want, will when it’s okay with her. She is a strong woman and I hope to grow up like her. Both, my sister and mother, have done nothing but support me in my decisions. They tell me that it’s my life, make something great out of it. That’s what I love most about them.
What are you doing this Summer? With the three remaining weeks left of school, that's all people have been talking about. Summer... What's the big deal over summer? All it is, is when all the little kids get to catch up on sleep. It's honestly a waste of time. In my opinion, summer is the time where everyone gets lazy. Nobody has any responsibilities or anything to work towards. Okay, maybe some people might have to work, but the majority are still in bed at one o'clock. I personally have a hard time getting up without any worry of missing school. Every morning I get up at 6:30am to help out my mom in the morning and get my brother around for school. Without school, summer is going to be the time where I will get out of shape and overweight. It’s going to be the time where everyone will be getting out of shape and lazy. So what do I think about summer? I don’t see a need for it. Of course it’s a break of learning, but honestly what are you learning? By the time summer is over, and everyone is back at school you will have a hard time remembering what you have learned. The brain is a muscle, you have to work it to make it strong. Are you an Arkansas Razorback fan? As you may know from my previous posts, I’m a huge Patience Beard fan. I have always wanted to meet her. Well as of last Saturday, I finally got to! I was on my way to the Red and White game to cheer on one of my favorite seniors. Ty Conner, who had recently made the Arkansas Razorback Cheerleading team, had asked me to come. It never hit me that maybe, just maybe, that Patience Beard would be there. It was the three of us that went, my dad, brother, and myself. Thinking that it was going to be crowded we got there early. In this case, just in time! We parked and started walking to the main parking lot when I finally seen Ty standing with the cheerleader. Nervous for some reason, I went up to him and asked for a picture. He agreed and posed. We talked for awhile until I seen her, “Ty, that’s Patience Beard!” He smiled and looked back at her. He turned to me, “Do you want to meet her?” Shocked as I could be, I nodded my head. “Can I take a picture with you?” Patience, as sweet as she is couldn't say no. Then I heard a *snap*. “What’s your name again?” I totally forgot to introduce myself. “Rebecca, I’m Rebecca.” She smiled and introduced herself. Before she could finish, I had to tell her. “Oh, I know who you are. I've wrote about you before. You’re so amazing! I love you so much!” She gave me a look that I thought could had been an excited look, but then again it could have been a creeped out look. It didn't even hit me how much it sounded like I was a shocker. But she kept talking. I couldn't believe it. Then it was over. She had to leave. It didn't even register that she was leaving until she was gone. Every cheerleader gets fired up when someone tries to argue that cheerleading isn't a sport. It doesn’t matter who it is, a football player, teachers, coaches, even the friends that don’t understand why you’re not involved in something else “more athletic”, and I would like for everyone to know that cheerleading is for a fact a sport… The word sport doesn't have a solid “official’’ definition. To be a sport it must have these four elements to be counted as a sport: -For one, it must be a physical activity which involves propelling a mass through space or overcoming the resistance of mass. Which in this case, cheerleaders do… stunting. Stunting is something every cheerleader loves to do. Stunting involves teamwork, cheerleaders have to work together. -Second, “Contesting” or competing against/with an opponent is required. Everyone knows that cheerleaders have competitions and championships that we compete in. We cheerleaders have to compete in 4-5 at least to be able to compete in state competitions. -Third, it must be governed by rules that explicitly define the time, space, and purpose of the contest and the conditions under which a winner is declared. Cheerleading has rules that include time limits, mat sizes, and cheerleaders have score sheets to tell who is the winner. Everyone must follow the rules or they will be counted off or disqualified like most sports. -Last but not least, acknowledge that the primary purpose of the competition is a comparison of the relative skills of the participants. Cheerleaders have National Championships and State Championships to compare who is best. Cheerleaders everywhere compete to see if they’re cut out to be the best. Just like anyother sport cheerleaders like to be on top. All of the skills cheerleaders have helped justify that cheer is a sport. To perform our competitions/halftimes, cheerleaders have to have the strength of a football player, steadiness of a dancer, and is as flexible as a gymnast. So, therefore every cheerleader is an athlete.
